Critical Care

Conway Regional's Critical Care Unit (CCU) is equipped to provide highly specialized care to patients who suffer from a serious injury or illness. Our critical care unit is one of the top intensive care units in the central Arkansas area.

While your loved one is there, a multidisciplinary team (physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, pharmacists) trained in the care of critically ill or injured patients will provide continuous observation and monitoring as well as specialized care.

Patients are admitted to CCU from the Emergency Department, an operating room, another patient care area at Conway Regional, or after being transferred from another hospital. 

Typical CCU patients may be recovering from:

• Respiratory issues, such as pneumonia or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
• Congestive heart failure (CHF)
• Surgery, if the patient's conditions warrant critical care
• Liver disease
• Cancer treatment
• Stroke or other neural related illness
• Difficult to heal wounds, lacerations, and broken bones
• Multiple complications related to the overall condition of the patient

Admission is based on a physician finding that close observation or specialized monitoring and/or therapy is needed. Once this specialized care is no longer needed, your loved one will be discharged from the CCU to either a regular hospital room or concentrated care (step-down) unit where modified observation or therapy can be administered.

Visiting Guidelines

To ensure the health and safety of our patients, staff, and community, we have updated our visitor policy. Given the rise in active COVID cases throughout our state and local communities, the intent is to reduce patients and staff to potential exposure.  All patients and visitors entering the medical center and clinics are required to wear a mask at all times.
